In UP 3.0, students have their own usernames that they may attach to any number of classrooms. This allows us to collect more detailed anonymous statistics on how students use UP, and allows future support for student-specific features such as note taking, etc.
Each student makes an account by visiting /up/ and clicking on "Create an account".
They then make up an account name and password that they want to use. We only collect email address so that we can send them their password information if they forget it.
At this point, they can now log in, but don't have access to any classes. To view your classroom, they can choose the link "Enroll in a class", select your classroom for the list, and enter the classroom password that you entered when you created the class (you need to tell them that password in class). This keeps just anyone from making an account to view your class web pages.
We realize that it is now more complicated for students, but we hope they will enjoy the new features afforded by student-specific accounts.
A handout that you can print and give to students is available here: StudentWelcome.html. The latest version is available online here: /up/about/StudentWelcome.html.
